About Cantilan Bank

Cantilan Bank was established in 1980. Since then, it has helped improve the local economy in rural communities across the central and southern Philippines with a range of innovative financial services.

With a network of 43 offices operating within Mindanao and the Visayas, Cantilan Bank aims to provide accessible products and deliver financial inclusion initiatives that convert the underbanked into thriving savings communities.

This visionary organisation is regarded as one of the leading rural banks in the Philippines.

The challenge.

Cantilan’s challenge was to extend its reach to more clients in remote and rural communities who lacked access to  life-enhancing financial services.

However, without cloud technology, Cantilan Bank’s ability to serve its clients – and therefore to grow its business – was seriously limited.

In particular, it was unable to offer its clients innovative digital financial services that would help them save money, make payments, apply for loans, send remittances, withdraw cash, and communicate with Cantilan Bank’s field officers.

The solution.

Cantilan Bank found the solution to these challenges in Oradian’s pioneering cloud-based core banking solution.

In July 2017, it officially launched a pilot project with the support of the Asian Development Bank to move its core banking operations to Oradian’s platform – having worked with clients in the Philippines for many years, this was already well-suited to the financial landscape in which Cantilan operated.

Oradian and Cantilan Bank worked together through all stages of their digital transformation, including:

  • Full migration of Cantilan Bank’s data and information to cloud infrastructure
  • Improving the mobility of loan officers in the field through mobile applications linked to the core banking platform
  • Integration with third parties including payments and remittance services
  • Providing clients with direct digital access to their finances
  • Measuring the impact of this digital transformation on financial access

The result.

Moving to Oradian’s cloud-based core banking platform has given Cantilan Bank access to accurate, real-time data about its operations and client base, thereby helping it make more effective, data-driven strategic decisions.

This, in turn, means it can achieve its goal of improving its clients’ access to financial services in the rural Philippines.

Now, Cantilan Bank’s board meetings start with a close look at the Oradian dashboard, which shows consolidated real-time data showing all key metrics, from how many clients it has, to how each type of loan product is performing.

In addition to the strategic and operational benefits of cloud technology, by integrating Oradian’s core banking platform with a network of ATMs, Cantilan Bank’s clients now have more convenient access to digital financial services even when they are far from one of Cantilan’s branches.
